Dance Marathon 2013
FEBRUARY 23-24, 10 AM to 10 AM
UGA Miracle’s 18th annual Dance Marathon benefiting Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta will take place from Saturday February 23rd at 10 a.m. until Sunday February 24th at 10 a.m.
More than 1,000 registered participants will fill The Tate Student Center’s Grand Ballroom on The University of Georgia campus for 24 hours to celebrate the lives of “Miracle children,” patients at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. Students will sacrifice a full day to honor countless children who spend days, weeks, and even years in the hospital. The event features catered meals every four hours, university a cappella performances, a talent show featuring patients from the hospital, a hypnotist, UGA fire baton twirlers and much more.
Dance Marathon is not just another social event for University of Georgia students. It truly is “For The Kids” as UGA Miracle’s slogan says. For 24 hours, former and current patients at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta can stop thinking about their illness and feel like rock stars. They dance until they drop, play video games, share their personal stories, roll down the bouncy slide, and enjoy attention from college students.
UGA Miracle is one of the largest student-run philanthropies at the University of Georgia, and it is proud to celebrate its 18th year as a campus organization. Last spring, UGA Miracle celebrated being named the University of Georgia’s “Most Outstanding Service to the Community.” Since its beginning, UGA Miracle has raised more than $3.1 million for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. The funds raised by UGA Miracle have specifically benefitted the Comprehensive Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit (CIRU) at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. By last year’s Dance Marathon, students raised more than $320,000 for Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, a total that broke us over the $3 million dollar giving mark to our hospital. UGA Miracle and its participants are passionate about engaging with the kids at Children’s and enhancing their quality of life. At the end of the 24 hours, UGA Miracle will reveal their total amount fundraised throughout the year, all of which goes directly to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.
Tickets for Dance Marathon can be purchased at the door of Tate Grand Ballroom for $10 per person or online available in the summer of 2013. For more information about UGA Miracle and how to register for a team for Dance Marathon, visit www.ugamiracle.org.
