The 2013 Standing Challenge: Making History
"As I began to speak I wanted to thank the students but the words didn't seem to flow. Over 100 students pledged to stand for 24 hours. 24 hours without sitting down. When I heard that one member of the Executive Board was doing that I was blown away. Then I found out most if not all executive board was doing that. Then more & more I was seeing the 2012 race numbers for those standing 24 hours for our children that cannot stand. Our 3 children that use wheelchairs are not using them because they get tired but because their legs are not strong enough for them to stand. Michala could if she had prosthesis but because her seizures are so hard it would be very dangerous. So these students standing for 24 hours for kids that cannot stand had a huge impact on me. It meant more to me than they will ever know."

At UGA Miracle’s Dance Marathon in 2012, 140 students became the first group to complete the optional Standing Challenge at our Dance Marathon and stand for the entire 24 hours. To see the names of each student who chose to take the challenge, check out the booklet below.
At Dance Marathon, we sacrifice one full day every year to represent the struggle of the kids we raise money for, some of whom will never be able to walk again or will require intensive rehabilitation to relearn this skill we take for granted. The Standing Challenge is a chance for you to let those we raise money for know that we are willing to go the extra mile for them. We take a stand for the 300,000 children treated at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta and the other 17 million treated at Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals annually.
In addition to this sacrifice, the Standing Challenge allows us to join the greater movement of Dance Marathons across the country, most of which require their participants to stand the entire time. Our challenge is optional, but encouraged for those who want to join the culture and tradition of the national Dance Marathon program. For those who stand the full 24 hours, there will be incentives at Dance Marathon, including signing the book which was created for all those who participated in the challenge in 2012.
