A UGA Miracle Summer!

While we may have been away from Athens, UGA Miracle was still celebrating! This summer was packed with good news, great fundraising and a collective challenge to work together towards tomorrow.

Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta ranked among the “Best Children’s Hospitals”

Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta is extremely honored and motivated by its recent ranking among the “Best Children’s Hospitals” in the nation for 2022-2023, according to the U.S. News and World Report. This is determined by data gathered from over 100 medical centers that evaluated various elements of hospitals across the nation. According to these evaluations, Children’s has 4 specialties ranked in the top 10 and 8 specialties in the top 20 – wow! These specialities span from Children’s Cancer Program to their Cardiology and Heart Surgery Program. In addition, Children’s ranked in every single one of the 10 pediatric specialty areas that were discussed in U.S. News and World Report. As the only freestanding pediatric healthcare system in Georgia, this ranking is a huge accomplishment and definitely something worth being proud of!

Donna Hyland, CEO of Children’s, speaks out about how proud she is of all the incredible care that her team provides patients with. She expands on this by highlighting Children’s goal: “to meet the needs of future generations in Georgia and beyond, doing everything possible for kids.” This goal is not only the goal of Donna Hyland and her staff at Children’s, but also of all members of the community of donors to the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta’s accomplishment of being ranked as one of the best pediatric hospitals in the nation shows that UGA Miracle helped the hospital get one step closer to their goal. Ultimately, Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta is among the best in the nation in making kids better today and healthier tomorrow.

UGA Miracle is so proud to partner with Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta to give children what they deserve: equal access to medical care. We cannot wait to continue supporting them in this upcoming year!

Together Towards Tomorrow

Our summer fundraising theme, Together Towards Tomorrow, aimed to highlight the importance of our community. Together, we stand as one to build a better tomorrow for all. Since June 1st, our members have been learning what it means to work together towards tomorrow. This campaign contained two fundraising pushes among our leadership team to kickstart the year. Our leadership team works year-round for our organization, and we could not be more proud.

On June 1st, we set this summer’s fundraising goal to $228 to signify the 28th year of UGA Miracle. On June 22nd, we challenged all members of leadership to raise $25 in honor of the cost of one hospital rehab stability ball. Our second fundraising push on July 20th challenged our team to raise $35 in honor of the cost of one speech therapy play card set.

We understand that we can’t do it all on our own, and this summer, we focused on what this means to us. Together, all each and every member of UGA Miracle works together towards helping children see another tomorrow. Our impact is more than just ours, it’s yours. We give thanks to our friends, our family, and all of our donors. Thank you!

Dance Marathon Leadership Conference 2022

From July 21-24th, 11 members of our Executive Council and Board attended the 2022 Dance Marathon Leadership Conference in Atlanta, GA. The attendees worked on developing effective strategies to raise funds and generate awareness for Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, our local Children’s Miracle Network Hospital, while also expanding their personal connection to a larger cause and reconfirming their commitment to local kids.

The weekend was packed with workshops, presentations, awards and a mini-Dance Marathon with a fundraising push that raised over $12,000 in just 14 minutes. Student leaders from schools supporting the 170 CMN Hospitals from around the country gathered and shared best practices from their Dance Marathon programs. Our attendees took this weekend as a learning, bonding, and networking opportunity all while developing a greater connection to the cause.

We were especially fortunate to attend this event while it was located in Atlanta, GA, not too far from Athens! Being in the city where our hospital is located was such an awesome opportunity to meet staff from Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta and the Foundation as well as the national champion Miracle Children, who we are looking forward to welcoming to our UGA Miracle Family this upcoming year.

At the end of the weekend in the final general session of the conference, UGA Miracle’s Hospital Advisor, Avery Fiveash, won the Hospital Advisor of the Year Award! The Hospital Advisor of the Year Award is given to one Hospital Advisor nominee who goes above and beyond for the students in their respective program, creates cause-connection, and acts as a liaison between the CMN Hospital they work for and the programs who support it. We were so excited to nominate Avery and see her win this award right here in Atlanta.

Summer 2022 was an amazing one for UGA Miracle. With lots to celebrate and be proud of, we are confident that our members have been inspired to continue working together towards a better tomorrow for our Miracle Kids and Children’s!
