Mary Webb

It was one month into Mary's first year of high school when we noticed something was a little off. Mary seemed tired and lethargic all the time and she had a hard time keeping any food down. It took us some time to eliminate and try to figure out what was going on. Nowhere at that time were we thinking of brain cancer. While eliminating things, Mary mentioned she couldn't see anything out of her left eye. That was a game-changer and took things to a whole other level.  We went straight to the emergency room at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta- where two tumors were discovered in the brain.  She began emergency chemotherapy immediately.  After many rounds of intense chemotherapy, she also had to undergo proton radiation therapy.  Those were some really hard times. Thankfully, all scans have been clear, and she is slowly getting back to herself.  She is a rising 11th grader at North Oconee High School and is active in several clubs and marching band.  She is currently working as an ambassador for Children's Miracle Network and considers it an honor to share her story in hopes to encourage others encountering hard things.  She says all the time that she doesn't know why this has happened, but she wants to make good things come from it.  We are forever grateful to those that support Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.  No one ever wants to find themselves at the doors of a children's hospital, but if you do, it's great to know you are at the right place, with the right people, and that your child is receiving the best resources with the most experienced medical team.  For those that support these endeavors- thank you!  We appreciate the difference that you have made in Mary's journey and the difference that you are making in the lives of all the children that walk through those doors.
